Anduril and Archer's Thunder puts autonomy at the center of vertical lift

The pattern echoes the launch and satellite markets, where software-centric entrants pushed incumbents into partnerships within a handful of years.

What to watch next: the identity of Halo's launch partners will reveal the initial commercial thesis — parcel logistics, offshore energy, or medical supply; a named defense program of record would convert Thunder from showpiece to revenue; and the distance between surrogate flights and the 2027 first flight will test how far the software-first model truly compresses aerospace timelines.
